“This Love” hit #1 on many charts and was met with controversy regarding extended intimate scenes between Levine and his then-girlfriend in the music video.

4. Jimmy Eat World – The Middle

Year: 2001

Album: Bleed American

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Jimmy Eat World’s album title was changed to a self-titled album and the lead single failed to win much airplay, thus the success of the band was riding on the next single.  “The Middle” broke through and became #1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Modern Rock chart.
