16. Lifehouse – Hanging By A Moment
Album: No Name Face
Despite not going to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, “Hanging” still finished as the top song on the chart for the year 2001.
15. Eminem – Lose Yourself
“Lose Yourself” became the first rap song to win The Academy Award for Best Original Song.
14. The Killers – Mr. Brightside
Album: Hot Fuss
13. The Calling – Wherever You Will Go
Album: Camino Palmero
“Wherever You Will Go” topped the Adult Top 40 for 23 weeks, the second longest running number one in the chart’s history.
12. Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars
Album: Eyes Open
In 2009, the PPL announced “Chasing Cars” was the most widely played song of the decade in the UK.
11. Switchfoot – Dare You To Move
Album: The Beautiful Letdown
“Dare You To Move” won two Dove Awards: Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year and Short Form Music Video of the Year.
10. 30 Seconds To Mars – Kings and Queens
Album: This Is War
“Kings and Queens” was honored as the best single of 2009 by Rock Sound.
9. Matchbox Twenty – Unwell
Album: More Than You Think You Are
“Unwell” spent 20 weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Adult Top 40 chart.
8. The Fray – How To Save A Life
Album: How to Save a Life
“How To Save a Life” topped the Adult Top 40 chart for 15 consecutive weeks and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal
7. Avril Lavigne – Complicated

6. Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
“Bleeding Love” was the best selling digital song of 2008 and is in the top 5 selling songs of the decade.
5. Linkin Park – In The End
Album: Hybrid Theory
“In The End” is Billboard’s second most played rock song of the decade.
4. Jimmy Eat World – The Middle
Album: Bleed American
Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Jimmy Eat World’s album title was changed to a self-titled album and the lead single failed to win much airplay, thus the success of the band was riding on the next single. “The Middle” broke through and became #1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Modern Rock chart.
3. Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved

Maroon 5 hit #1 in multiple countries with “She Will Be Loved”, selling almost 3 million copies.

“Drops of Jupiter” was nominated for 5 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and won 2 for “Best Rock Song” and “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)”
1. U2 – Beautiful Day
In 2001, “Beautiful Day” won three Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Readers of Rolling Stone ranked it as the third-best single of the 2000s.
