180. Weezer – Keep Fishin’

Year: 2002

Album: Maladroit

The video for “Keep Fishin'” became an instant success due to the use of the Muppets. At one point, Kevin Smith was attached to direct the video for this song (but without the muppets).



179. Jennifer Lopez feat. Ja Rule – I’m Real (Murder Remix)

Year: 2001

Album: J.Lo

Much controversy followed the song after its release, mainly due to the use of uncredited sampling of other songs as well as complaints over their use by Mariah Carey.



178. The Donnas – Take It Off 

Year: 2002

Album: The Donnas

“Take It Off” peaked at #19 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2002.



177. Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies

Year: 2002

Album: Flogging Molly

“Drunken Lullabies” gained much popularity after being featured on the tracklisting of the video games such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4.


176. Nelly Furtado  ft. Timbaland – Promiscuous

Year: 2006

Album: Loose

“Promiscuous” became the first number one single by a Canadian female artist since 1998.


175. Iyaz – Replay

Year: 2009

Album: Replay

The combined figure of the official music video and prequel video for “Replay” on YouTube is over 103 million views.



174.  The Airborne Toxic Event – Sometime Around Midnight

Year: 2008

Album: The Airborne Toxic Event

“Sometime Around Midnight” was iTunes’ #1 alternative song of 2008.



173.  Muse – Starlight

Year: 2006

Album: Black Holes and Revelations

A harsh review of “Starlight” came from NME with the reviewer stating that the song “is a tune so chart-hungry it’s virtually dry-humping JK and Joel‘s legs.”



172.  Ja Rule & Ashanti – Mezmerize

Year: 2002

Album: The Last Temptation

The music video for “Mezmerize” was inspired by the film Grease



171.  Taking Back Sunday –  Cute Without the “E” (Cut From the Team)

Year:  2002

Album: Tell All Your Friends

“Cute Without the E” was a huge independent hit, leading to the album being certified Gold even without significant promotion.


170.  The All-American Rejects – Dirty Little Secret

Year: 2005

Album: Move Along

“Dirty Little Secret” peaked at #48 on Billboard’s “Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 2006”.



169. Katy Perry – Hot N Cold

Year: 2008

Album: One of the Boys

In 2010, Perry performed a version of the song with Elmo intended for the children’s television show Sesame Street (to teach children about opposites) which was released on websites such as YouTube. However, the producers of Sesame Street decided not to air the segment on the show after receiving complaints that Perry’s revealing wardrobe was not appropriate for children.



168.  Unwritten Law – Seein’ Red

Year: 2002

Album: Elva

“Seein’ Red” became the highest-charting single of the band’s career, holding the #1 spot on Billboard‘s Modern Rock Tracks chart for four weeks between May and June 2002.



167. AFI – Miss Murder

Year: 2006

Album: Decemberunderground

“Miss Murder” won the award for Best Rock Song at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.



166. Eve 6 – Promise

Year: 2000

Album: Horrorscope

“Promise”, was a hit on alternative rock radio, reaching #3 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart and #25 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.



165.  Angels & Airwaves – The Adventure

Year: 2006

Album: We Don’t Need to Whisper

“The Adventure” was played in the crowd warm-up session before Barack Obama‘s presidential election rallies in 2008.



164. Yellowcard – Only One

Year: 2003

Album: Ocean Avenue

“Only One” had to be shortened, from 4:17 to 3:55, for radio purposes. The violin solo in the bridge had to be cut.



163.  Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Year: 2008

Album: Only by the Night

“Sex on Fire” was nominated for Best Rock Song, and won the award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2008 Grammy’s.



162. 30 Seconds To Mars – The Kill

Year: 2006

Album: A Beautiful Lie

The video for “The Kill” is an homage to the Stanley Kubrick‘s 1980 film The Shining based on the Stephen King novel.



161.  Stacie Orrico – (There’s Gotta be) More To Life

Year: 2003

Album:  Stacie Orrico

“(There’s Gotta be) More To Life” peaked in the top five in three countries.
